Some of my insights in the power of render farm in 3d advertising production.
Hi, long time no see. I have just finished a 3d ads by myself using a render farm, which leads me to this article. In the end, it’s my journey, so I hope what I share will help you have some insights in the power of render farm in 3d advertising production.
What is a render farm?
I think I got tired of explaining this “render farm” definition. There is an article about it on my website “what is a render farm?”, go check it out and you will have the definition you need.
Or if it’s too long for you, a render farm is a high-performance computer system designed to render CGI and VFX for films, video games, advertisements, and other media. In particular, a render farm is a group of computers that collaborate to do the same job, such as 3D rendering, simulation, etc. The computers in a render farm are known as render nodes.

The power of Render Farm in 3D advertising production?
Need I say more, 3d ads in the end are 3d production, which contains stunning, high-quality work requiring a long time to render. A render farm is not a must, however, you need it to render faster, or be able to render your 3D advertising production.
Now let’s break it down.
The power of render farm is bigger than your own computer. Each node may be weaker, but if you combine hundreds or thousands of nodes together, it becomes stronger. It calculates faster, renders your project in the blink of an eye, while your computer may take days or weeks.
If you think that the power of render farm in 3D advertising is just in the rendering process, I bet you are wrong. It’s more than that.
A render farm in 3D advertising could be more than just rendering. You can use it in any stage of the production pipeline. I myself use a render farm to create some liquid simulations in my 3D ads. Normally, you will do simulations on your computer and render on a farm, right? But I do some other stuffs on my computer, use render farm (or iRender specifically) to do simulations and render.

Why did I use iRender? Because it’s an IaaS render farm, where a render node is an individual computer. You can access that individual computer and do whatever you want there, which in my case is simulation. You can dive in more via this article to know what IaaS is “IaaS – SaaS – PaaS render farm: Which is the future of render farm?”
After I finished the simulation, I could be on that individual computer to continue other works and then render. But it’s expensive, that’s why I came back to my own computer and work, then threw them to that individual computer to render. To compare, the time for doing simulation and render on a render farm in my case is 3 times faster than if I just do it on my computer.
Conclusion: Power of Render Farm in 3D Advertising
The power of Render Farm in 3D advertising production is undeniable. In my case, the time for simulation cuts down 3 times, the render is much faster as my computer cannot handle 8k. Using a render farm in the right way and right stage will help you work more efficiently on every 3D job.
